Emergency Water Damage Restoration in Myrtle Beach After Toilet Supply Line Failure
May 17, 2026
Too Long, Didn't Read
A Myrtle Beach homeowner woke up around 3 a.m. to every homeowner’s nightmare — standing water throughout much of their home after a toilet supply line unexpectedly failed overnight. By the time the water was discovered, nearly an inch of Category 1 water had spread across approximately 1,500 square feet of the home.
The water affected multiple flooring types including laminate flooring in the living room and dining area, carpet in the bedrooms and hallway, and tile flooring in the kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry room.
Like many homeowners facing an unexpected water emergency in the middle of the night, the customer was overwhelmed and unsure what to do next. They immediately contacted a local plumber to stop the leak. Once onsite, the plumber recognized the severity of the water damage and strongly recommended Restoration 1 of Horry County for emergency water mitigation services.
Our IICRC-certified team arrived onsite within approximately one hour of the call. We quickly inspected the property, documented the damage for insurance purposes, performed moisture mapping, and began emergency water extraction to help prevent additional structural damage and mold growth.
Because the water affected multiple flooring materials and spread throughout a large portion of the home, the loss was classified as a Class 2 water damage loss. Our team removed the non-salvageable laminate flooring, carpet, and carpet pad while carefully protecting the rest of the home and contents.
All furniture was moved and placed on protective furniture blocks to help prevent moisture damage to furniture legs and contents during the drying process. The homeowners also had two dogs, so our team worked carefully to keep the home as safe, organized, and comfortable as possible throughout the mitigation process.
Although the home was built on a slab foundation, elevated moisture readings were discovered beneath portions of the kitchen cabinetry. Using specialty cavity drying systems along with commercial dehumidifiers and high-velocity air movers, we were able to successfully dry the affected areas beneath the cabinets and save the kitchen cabinetry — significantly reducing demolition and reconstruction costs for the homeowner.
Unfortunately, the bathroom vanities were not salvageable and required removal and replacement. However, because the homeowner discovered the leak quickly and Restoration 1 responded immediately, major secondary damage was prevented. No drywall removal was necessary. Instead, baseboards were removed so the sill plates and wall cavities could be properly dried using targeted structural drying techniques.
Our technicians monitored the drying process daily using professional moisture meters and drying equipment to ensure the home was drying properly and efficiently. Thanks to the fast response and aggressive drying process, the home was fully dried and stabilized in only three days.
Once mitigation was complete, our reconstruction team returned to replace the flooring, reinstall baseboards, and install new bathroom vanities to restore the property to pre-loss condition.
What started as a highly stressful situation quickly became much more manageable for the homeowners. By the second day of the project, they were laughing and joking with our team and felt confident the home was in good hands. At the completion of the project, they were thrilled with the outcome and grateful for the fast response, clear communication, and assistance navigating the insurance claim process.
